1. System design and assessment of designs carried out by others.
It is often a daunting task for a property owner to try to select an irrigation system from a variety of Irrigation Companies, each one of them with their own opinions on how the system should be designed.
Kitto Consulting can assist in this to ensure that the client is well informed on exactly what they are getting in each quotation and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Suggestions may be made to improve the system to make it more energy efficient, more cost effective, more robust or to meet future plans for expansion.
When there is a large difference in price between two systems there is usually a large difference in their performance as well.
Understandably, most Farmers just don’t have the technical irrigation knowledge or design tools to be able to quantify these differences.
2. Pump Analysis
There are many pumps in operation which are not performing to the standard required, or suffer mechanical breakdown or poor energy efficiency because of poor pump selection or wear and tear.
Kitto Consulting specialises in taking measurements of pump performance and analysing the results to diagnose possible causes of problems. This can often result in improved system performance and/or improved energy efficiency.
3. Pipeline System Assessment
Sometimes pipelines have ongoing repeated problems with blow outs or other failures. These are usually at the most inopportune time causing time and money wasted on the repair as well as lost production if the repair cannot be carried out quickly. Quite often these failures are a symptom of the operating parameters of the pipeline or by problems with valves or Pump controls, or a combination of all three.
4. Flow Measurement
All irrigation systems vary slightly in performance compared with when they were designed however sometime incorrect sprinklers or sprinklers packages result in over or under-watering within the system resulting in less than optimum plant growth and wastage or water or consented take.
Using non-invasive flow meter technology, Kitto Consulting can carry out flow measurements to verify design flows or to check the accuracy of flow meters ensuring that you are able to optimise your consented take to maximum advantage.
5. System Commissioning Checks
Over the years there have been many systems installed that have not been commissioned correctly, if at all! It is vitally important that this is carried out to ensure that the client is getting what they paid for and to ensure the system is operating properly without incurring further damage to expensive equipment or wasted energy.
It is well worth having independent checks done to ensure the system has been designed and installed correctly.
